Icon, who were responsible for designing and making the first 3D printed house are now moving on to something much bigger and better in Latin America. They are partnering with New Story, a charity whose aim is to pioneer solutions to end global homelessness. They will be using the new Vulcan II printer to make a 3D printed community. Each house will take a little over 24 hours to print, the first house took 48 hours to print but it was roof, windows, doors and electrical/plumbing with conventional methods printing at a percentage of the top speed, to print. There will also be a bit more work and time to add roof, windows, doors and electrical/plumbing which are not 3D printed, they will cost roughly $4000. The houses are also designed to be earthquake and weather proof. The highest expenses may be transporting the printer and personnel. Many funds have already been acquired. If you want to learn and see even more visit the new story website's 3D community section: newstorycharity.org/3d-community/ I am hoping we will be able to see these concepts and dreams become reality.
